Counting Blessings

I read a comment on a blog by a woman who has had a number of health issues, including ones that keep her and her husband from having kids. She was addressing those with kids and said

"we would trade the best day we've had without kids for your worst day with them."

Ya know what, we wouldn't. I 'm not judging this girl or think less of her. I cannot begin to fathom the level of their difficulties as a couple. I'm just saying, for us, we have a pretty nice life.

I wouldn't trade our most difficult and sad day for any other families' most spectacular. That's because we know we are where we are and who we are because of those days.

As a 3.5/5 star movie once said "How could [we] be angry when this is clearly as God intended it to be for [us]?"

We still ache for our children, quite often recently, but "when upon life's billows you are tempest tossed...count your many blessings see what God hath done."

1. We have a rock solid marriage. Seriously, it's everything I ever wanted.

2. We have a nice, safe, and clean home that we enjoy being in and can feel the spirit in.

3. We have an education that is unmatched by most of the rest of the world.

4. We have a family, both in our home and extended, that love, support, and strengthen us everyday and will be wonderful for any child to come into. I don't mean to brag, but our family ROCKS!

Why would we ever trade our life without our children for someone's life with their children? I've said it once and I'll say it a billion more times, we don't want any children, we want our children, and we'll wait and search forever for them.

We have a pretty great life, and we are excited to bring children into our life when it is time for them to be here with us. We pray daily to be strengthened until that day comes.

Rachel. Wow. I am so glad to read this comment because I think I have read that other blog you are referring to and I have to say it is nice to see a more positive perspective. Although you acknowledge that you have struggled with your inability to conceive, you firmly believe in the plan that God has for you. That is so comforting to me as I was just diagnosed with PCOS not that long ago and may some day be in the same boat as many others. Thanks for being so awesome! I know you will find your children eventually and I admire your steadfastness in waiting. *hugs*

Of course I wasn't trying to belittle the struggle they have been going through either - I know it has to be hard for them. I know that. But I just meant it is nice to see a different perspective.

I think I've said it before, but when I was pregnant and looking at couples, I was always a little turned off by the ones who gave off the vibe of their lives being miserable and incomplete without a baby. I mean, that's a lot of pressure for a baby! What if mine couldn't do it for them?

(I'm not talking about the blog you linked to, since I haven't read it before, I'm just talking about some couples in general.)

What I've always liked about you (I've known you for so long now, ha-ha) is the feeling you give that, you know what, your life is pretty amazing, and you're not going to jump in front of a train if you don't adopt soon. I need to learn some of that patience!

Thank you for being awesome :)

Best wishes to you both! I can relate to so much of what you said. I'm so glad I found happiness before I had children instead of expecting motherhood to put happiness in my lap. I'll be checking back to see how things progress for you two! (By the way, I wandered here from Cjane's blog. It's nice to meet you!)
