We Found Our Family

As many of our readers know we recently adopted a beautiful little girl, Alexa (aka Piglet).

But what those of you that aren't as familiar with adoption may not know is that when we adopted Alexa we really adopted a whole new family.  So meet the other two new members of our family - Ray and Melissa.

We really don't know what it is like to have enough love and courage to recognize that adoption is the right thing for your child, but we do know what it looks like.  There are a lot of tears, some powerful moments of peace, a wild emotional roller-coaster, and the ability to override overwhelming parental instincts that scream "keep this baby with you!!".  Ray and Melissa had the faith and courage to move ahead with what they knew was best for their little girl, and somehow they decided that we could help.

The best part about open adoption is that this is not the end of our relationship with Ray and Melissa but the beginning.  When Aly is blessed in church in 6 months and baptized in 8 years, they'll be invited.  When we get cute pictures of her playing dress up in a couple years, we'll talk on the phone about how adorable she is.  When Aly gets the chicken pox we'll all worry about her together. Our little Piglet will never have to wonder why her biological parents decided to place her in our family because if she does she'll be able to ask them herself.

Welcome to the family Melissa and Ray!

  7. I don't know how I missed this, but thank you for explaining open adoption so perfectly. We got to take our daughter home, but our family since that day has grown by three more members; Carri, her fianceƩ and her daughter Caleigh. More family. Much love and congratulations.
